The impact
Near Musanze, Rwanda
After the 1994 genocide, Florent Nsengumuremyi, one of the few survivors of his family, was given a bicycle. It carried him to school and to the market, but it gave him more than transport: sport became his way towards a better future.
In 2019, he founded the Twin Lakes Cycling Academy (TLCA) to give disadvantaged children in Rwanda the same chance.
Since then, TLCA has combined sport and education to open doors for young people. With support from Shift Up for Rwanda, a German non-profit, it brings in funding, equipment and regular visits on the ground.

02 — The TLCA Clubhouse
Shift Up is turning an old bar into a clubhouse for TLCA, with an opening planned for the end of 2026.
It will be the academy's home base: where the bikes and gear are kept, where a mechanic keeps them running, and where young people from the village meet to ride together.
Donations help with the renovation and then keep the doors open: rent, electricity, water and internet.
